Five years ago when I set out to become a Certified Professional Coach, I had barely an idea of what I was going to do with it. I just knew that coaching had all of the ingredients for a career I could get excited about and have it support the lifestyle business that was becoming increasingly important to me.

Because quality is one of my core values, I chose a training school with some of the highest credentials and performance results in the industry. The investment of time and money was very high particularly from where I was standing. Could I afford it?

I was going through a divorce in a household where my primary role at the time was being a stay-at-home mom with a modest seasonal administrative job at a local ski hill. And although I had been a successful corporate executive for twenty-five years before that, I no longer identified that way.

I was starting over again, only this time, I had a lot of wisdom to guide me. So, could I afford it? I couldn’t afford not to. The alternative of having to find a job made my stomach turn. I recognized that this could be my last chance to finally create a life that I could feel really good about. It was about so much more than generating an income. It was about the work of my life.

From where I was standing, I didn’t have a lot to lose. Except for one thing – the chance of a lifetime to do what I had always wanted to do. I wasn’t really clear about what exactly it was, but I had enough of the requirements figured out that I would use as qualifiers to help me decide.

What I knew for sure, I wanted to …

  • be independent,
  • be an entrepreneur
  • be totally in control of the work I do, who I work with and when I choose to work
  • be able to work from anywhere
  • make a global impact
  • be able to make as much income as I wanted – no more minimal annual increases!!!
  • use my creativity and curiosity to write, which I love to do
  • develop programs to help others step into a higher version of themselves
  • do work that allowed me to expand my passion for human potential & mastery
  • utilize technology to connect with clients and to deliver my work through
  • make a difference for other exemplary humans with the same desires I had
  • create extraordinary results in the lives of my clients with my guidance
  • do work that made me really happy because that’s when I am at my best

That’s a tall order and a fantastic job description, don’t you think? I thought so.

This was the baseline that allowed me to start creating a vision of what was possible. As I started to get clearer, the coaching program I wanted became available for the first time in Toronto close to where I live. And just a couple of weeks after that, I found myself getting certified as a Passion Test Facilitator by Janet Atwood herself (the co-author of the system), also being held in Toronto, which by fate only happened every few years.

When you step into a compelling vision and make a determined decision to have something extraordinary in your life, your life will step up to meet you there. I don’t honestly know if I would have made the choices I did if I was still sitting comfortably in my marriage. I had no one in my life at the time that could understand what it was that I needed.  I barely understood it myself.

* My New Life Chapter 1 (newlife 646x500)

For me, it was when I felt I had nothing to lose that opened up the doorway of opportunity. I was faced with having to figure out how I was going to take care of myself and my child. One thing I knew for sure, I was not willing to compromise this chance to become the successful Expert I had always dreamed of being. That’s when I was finally able to say, I have to do this. I have to do this for me. The cost was no longer the determining factor.

That was a huge moment for me, one that changed the trajectory of my life. And change my life it did.

Next month, I have a second book coming out titled Professional Performance 360: SUCCESS Special Edition. This is a very special and personal piece for me. I was invited to share my work alongside business magnate Richard Branson and Nido Qubein, President of High Point University and Harvey Mackay. It’s also where I reveal my Success Alignment®? brand. I am very proud of this project because I know it will ignite a spark that will make a difference in someone’s life.

Today, I have evolved from being a Certified Professional Coach to becoming a Success Alignment® Expert. My company is dedicated to developing Experts, Influencers and Thought Leaders from around the globe that want to make their mark on the world.

I know what it’s like when you have a burning desire deep within you, but no one believes in you.  I know what it’s like when you have someone notice you and take you by the hand to help you realize that ‘YOU GOT THIS’. I know the difference this can make in your life and in achieving the success you want. I’ve seen it over and over again. It happened for me and it can happen for you too, without having to flip your world upside down.

It took a life catastrophe for me before I finally said, ‘ENOUGH ALREADY’. It was only then that I was no longer willing to ignore the very part of me that was calling out for a better version of me to show up. You don’t have to wait until your life falls apart to have that.

You have this one life. If you are not already living your ideal life, you need to start somewhere. Start where you are, but START. Grab hold of this moment and make it what you want it to be. It’s what you need to become so that at the end of the day you get to say,

‘I did that and it was awesome’.
