AHHHH!!! No Internet! Just Breathe. I Got This.

When my internet went down late one Friday morning, I freaked out. I didn’t know what else to do so I decided to go for a walk (#1).

I needed the break anyway. For the first time that day I realized what a beautiful day it was. Why didn’t I notice that earlier?

On my walk, I ran into a new neighbor (#7) I had only met once before. We had a nice long, friendly chat. It feels good knowing the people that live near you. It even inspired me to call an old neighbor of mine that had moved away. Maybe I’ll do that this weekend.

I returned from my walk and still no internet. So, what to do? I had the brilliant idea to come up with 10 things I could do because of the outage (#9). I decided to have some fun with this. While coming up with my list, I decided I should turn the list into a blog post (#3).

Curious about those (#’s)?  They’re from the list I came up with. I’ve put it into a handy printout to inspire you to optimize your success with or without internet access.

GUIDE #1702

You need to realize that for me deciding to blog about my list was a really big deal. You might think, ‘that’s no biggie’. But it was. I haven’t been able to write a blog post for about 6 months. Not that I couldn’t. I wasn’t able to. [I’ve written about that in another article where I share what you can do when you find yourself stuck like that.]

We’re living in a funny time. I say funny because it never used to be like this. We are so dependant on our tools, technology, and access that we forget what life is like without it. That’s not a bad thing. It’s just a thing we take for granted. And it will from time to time decide when you can use it or not.

We need the internet. We love the internet. We have a dependency on the internet. It’s how we live today. It’s where we,

  • talk to friends
  • stay connected to family
  • do business
  • find jobs
  • get notified about our interests
  • do research
  • teach / learn
  • be entertained
  • keep track of things
  • plan vacations
  • see what the Jones’ are up to
  • keep up with the Kardashians
  • and so much more

But this is how it is now. THIS is our reality. This reality allows us to do extraordinary things we couldn’t even imagine just a decade or two ago. We all have to adapt and learn to live with it. I don’t say that in a derogatory way, but in a realistic – get with the program kind of way.

And while we have such extraordinary access with wide reach and new potential, let’s not forget how amazing life is without it. Those moments when you unplug, look up to see what’s around you and breathe in the day. Any child will remind you of that. If you have kids around, you are blessed and know exactly what I mean.

You need both sides working in tandem to bring out the best in you. They can exist simultaneously. In fact, they are more powerful when they do. You are more powerful when they do.

Your success relies on both conditions to be activated for you to be at your optimal.

If you haven’t already, take a look at the list I came up with to get you started on ramping up your success in this powerful way. You don’t need to wait for a power outage or for the internet to go down to use them. Incorporate them into your week. Borrow from my list until you come up with your own.

Go for it.

GUIDE #1702

If it wasn’t for the internet going down, I think I’d still be powering through my day. This has been a gift in disguise.

I’m loving the space that has opened up for me. It’s reminding me that I can actually create pockets like this through my week. I like to call them Power Pockets. In fact, my desire to grow, be more creative and succeed exponentially depends on it. As does yours.

Be good to yourself now. Inject these Power(ful) Pockets into your day. They are not a waste of time, but an enhancement of your time that contributes to your success and overall wellbeing.

I’m hungry now, so I’ll grab a bite to eat. After I eat, I’m going to plug in one of these Power Pockets to brainstorm (#4) what to do with my weekend. I might even catch a luxury nap (#6) before I plug back into the internet 😉
